Overshadowed by the allures and romances of neighbouring France and Spain, Portugal is one of Europe’s overlooked travel destinations. But those who go love its cities and miles of scenic coastline. Porto in the North is filled with history along the Rio Douro, while Lisbon’s medieval centre is an incredible thing to see. It is the Algarve; however, in Portugal’s south, that draws the most attention. This part of Europe is famous for its Mediterranean beaches, its beautiful blue sea, and its top-notch holiday resorts.

The northernmost part of the Algarve is the little city of Faro. Known as a summer party town, Faro is popular with visitors from Germany and the UK. Here you can get a taste of the local sun and fun culture, while exploring the peaceful streets with their Moorish influence. While summer in Faro is a busy scene, in winter it is peaceful and as charming as can be.

The Algarve’s biggest hotspot is without a doubt Lagos (Lah-goosh). The beaches here are some of the most colourful in the world. Here you’ll find long, crowded stretches of sand, as well as hundreds of private coves hidden by Mediterranean cliffs. At Ponta da Piedade, you can take a boat tour from the shore and explore the caves and rock formations. Other activities in Lagos include kayaking, diving, and dolphin tours. In the evenings Lagos also has an excellent party scene.

If you’re in the mood for food, then visit Portimão, which is well-known for seafood dishes, and fresh-fish restaurants. The most popular Portimão cuisine is the local grilled sardines, and you might also try the hot and spicy Piri Piri Chicken. One of the better places to eat is the popular Casa de Rocha. Apart from the delicious food, Casa de Rocha offers incredible ocean views. Try the king prawns, the calamari, or the steak fillet, and wash it down with a bottle of Portugal’s finest wine. For great live music in Portimão, Casa Inglesa has Dixieland Jazz every Thursday night. There are also some excellent restaurants and bars along the riverfront. :)Travel Feeder, your ultimate photo travel blog

Greeting from Interlaken! Here is one of my over 500 photos taken in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. I’m still on my Europe Travel MKII this year. I’m still busy snapping many many travel photos around here in Switzerland. I left Barcelona 2 days ago and I’m heading off to Berlin tomorrow. Without letting you guys waiting too long, I just uploaded this photos of an Antoni Gaudi‘s creation of a building in Parc Guell, a famous garden on a hill in Gracia’s District in north eastern part  of Barcelona city centre.

This photo was uploaded to Flickr straight out of  my Nikon D7000 without any post processing. Its amazing colours come from fantastic weather with perfect sunlighting. This is another example of the importance of lighting to a beautiful travel photo.

I will post more photos from my Europe travel next. Watch this place!

Got to sleep, see ya! :)Travel Feeder, your ultimate photo travel blog
