I have talked about why you should carry a camera waist belt bag, why you should carry a DSLR on your travel, and now I’m going to show you which camera waist belt bag I have been using for my Nikon D60 DSLR.
I love waist bag as I found it so easy for me to carry along on my travel and it will free up both of my hands for other stuffs. It is just perfect for me to wander around towns and streets without looking like a tourist, or less likely to be noticed and targetted by robbers. Moreover, waist belt bag is attached by wearing our waist belt through the bag itself so we don’t have to worry about the bag strap or strap hook being given way!
In other words, the waist bag has to be of highest quality to prevent torn and camera drop! It also has to be fit to my belt size to limit movement, and being big enough to fit my D60 with lense attached while being small enough to feel like nothing on my waist…
I found one! It is just perfect for my Nikon D60 and it is the Lowepro Cirrus TLZ15, as below…

And here are the Top 5 points of view on its usefulness as my waist belt bag to carry my camera during travel:-
- It is just perfectly fit for a DSLR like D60 and either the kit Nikkor 18-55mm VR or Nikkor 55-200 VR medium zoom lense fixed to it;
- It is also quite light in weight. If combining this bag with the lightweight Nikon D60, it is just feel like nothing on my waist;
- Lowepro is best known for their quality and durability of their whatever bags. With a lifetime warranty to all their products, I could have a piece of my mind wearing it on my waist;
- Lowepro Cirrus TLZ15 costs RM110 (it’s now selling at USD20.50 only. Check it out at Amazon) and it is just right for anyone concerning quality and price, and
- Well, it looks good on my waist (I think so…
). With professional black and grey colour fabric, this Lowepro has a stylish outlook and I feel more confident wearing it around!
Go and grab one if you love to travel with your DSLR. Wear it if you want both of your hands free for holding a map, riding a bicycle or carrying 2 hand-carry bags on board! – Travel Feeder.
Well, well, well. There are actually 2 different school of thoughts here. Some people (or even pro shooters) prefer to carry full, to fit all and every camera equipment into 1 bag, in case they need either of them, like 1 or 2 camera bodies, full range of short & long lens, flash, tripod, memory cards, laptop and even big bottle of drinking water (beware of water leakage that may flood your bag and equipment). On the other hand, some other people (or even pro’s as well) would rather prefer to carry light, to fit as little camera equipments as possible, to use only things they bring along, preferably 1 single body with single lens fixed on and that’s it! Oops! I’m referring to digital DSLR only here. Why? Read the reasons why you should travel with digital DSLR camera here.
It very much depends when and where you are carrying your camera to. For travel photography and for travel lovers, like me
, I would prefer to carry my Nikon D60 in a waist belt bag with my 18-55mm zoom lense fixed on. Why? I found out there are many advantages to use a waist belt attached bag rather than carrying a shoulder bag, sling bag or back pack. Here are my personal Top 5:-
- Free out both of my hands for other stuffs – I love to attach my camera bag to my waist belt. My hands or at least 1 of my hands doesn’t have to hold it onto shoulder or carry it while I’m walking or sitting, so my extra hand could carry another hand-carry bag onboard on my oversea travel;
- Easy to bring out or put back my Nikon D60 – Thanks to the lightweight of D60, it could be easily taken out from waist level and attached to my body in front of me;
- Prevent loss and robbery – Very often to forget if I were to leave my camera bags on the chair whiile waiting for buses; I love to leave it underneath my seat during meal also; Robbers and thieves are eyeing on my camera bags if I do so, especially while you are traveler to that country. Also my shoulder bag can easily and very often bang here and there when wandering around towns and travel destinations;
- Easy to carry, run and jump around, or even squad down for certain composition of shots – Also my shoulder bag can easily and very often bang here and there when wandering around towns and travel destinations, and
- Limit your equipments, pushing your creativity – This is one of the important reasons why I love to carry light. You will not find enough if you carry a backpack. You will bring along a lot more than what you will really need, especially travel. Why don’t just stick to 1 camera, 1 zoom lens, 1 flash and that’s it? I will try to think more to shoot more cretive photos than just relying on next lense!.
Sometimes, I do have 2 bags attached to my waist belt: 1 for my D60 and another for my Panasonic Lumix FZ28!
