Do you fancy eating lobster? A lot of people do and all of those many seafood restaurants in Patong are selling lobster. There are 2 types of lobster displayed for patron’s selection: dead or alive! Dead lobsters are off course much cheaper. Another factor deciding the selling price is the restaurant. Some are selling dead lobster for 180THB per 100 gram while some are offering 120THB per 100 gram.
This is a photo taken on the lobster display counter in front of Savoey (our Safari Beach Resorts‘ famous seafood restaurant). Look at the price tag. Dead lobsters are selling for 200THB per 100 gram! So 1 medium sized lobster should cost you around 2000THB or USD60! We didn’t try any there as we prefer eating prawns more than lobster. Finally, I’m going to wrap up the story of my South Yangtze China in this post. We woke up in the morning and it was already our 8th and final day in China. After having our breakfast in our hotel, KuaiJie by Holiday Inn, we checked out the hotel and headed to our final destination in Shanghai. I couldn’t resist and took a few photos of the scenes around since it was my last chance to do so.
If you were following these stories since the beginning of the tour, this is the only group shot of all 5 of us, posing in front of the hotel.
Well, we left our hotel and arrived at this place shortly. I haven’t mentioned where we went to, have I?
They claimed it as the branch of Beijing’s TongRenTang (同仁堂)traditional chinese pharmaceutical centre. I claimed it as the final travel hoax of our China tour! I’m not sure whether this is the authorised branch of TongRenTang, maybe you can tell me from this photo I took at the main entrance. According to our group member who went to the original centre in Beijing, packaging of medicine seemed different which I have no idea. I called it a hoax because it didn’t look like a conventional medicine store but more like a spa-like wellness centre. I called it so because when we went into the building, we were brought by a sales rep into a small hall. Without informing or explaining, a group of young therapists came in with a pile of warm water and offered us a foot reflexology session! Some of us declined the offer and we sat aside waiting while the rest were enjoying their session. Then a lady in uniform that looked like a physician came in to explain about the history of TongRenTang to us.
While those friends whose feet soaked in the warm water were enjoying the reflexology session, again, few physician came into the hall and approached them to offer pulse diagnosis on their health. This was the catch! Your feet were held by the therapist and physician were holding your hand. Where could you run?
After making a diagnosis, the physician will suggest a course of treatment from their full range of chinese medicine or herbs. Coincidentally, out of those 10 members who did the pulse diagnosis, all 10 of them were diagnosed with some kind illness and had bought some medicine from TongRenTang! Believe it or not? No doubt, their diagnosis skill and results were very convincing. But can you afford not to buy anything after the physician told you to treat your illness as soon as possible? At the end of it, our group bought over thousands bucks of Chinese traditional medicine! “We… are the champion, my friend…”
Same with other travel hoax of the package, we had lunch in the same building. At around 12:30pm we left Shanghai. Oops! Not quite. We headed to LongYang Road station in Pudong district of Shanghai to take a train to the airport. Passing by the Nanpu Bridge again, I took these photos from inside of our coach.
The scene was actually filtered by the coach window with sunscreen. The result was not really satisfactorily. What I did was to try to savage them with PS Element6 again. Some stains on the coach window glass panel could still be noticed though…
We took the fastest train on earth, the Shanghai Maglev Train, SMT! It cost RMB50 per person. Off course, it’s included in our all-in travel package.
I was quite excited to go up this escalator to the platform…
How fast could it be? 200km/h? 300km/h? What’s the maximum speed of a F1 Ferrari race car? 360km/h? We will see…
Nothing special of the platform other than a huge tunnel roof.
There was it! The SMT train, or the Shanghai Magnetic Levitation Demonstration Operation Line.
The distance from Longyang station to Pudong airport station is 30km and this SMT could reach there in 7min and 20sec!! Can you believe that?
The cabin is spacious and seat are comfortable. Noise level are tremendously low and without much vibration either. Objects and scenes outside were moving backward really really quick as soon as the train took off.
Look at the speed! It reached the maximum speed of 430Km/h in just 3 minutes!! And it wasn’t wobbling and I was still steady enough to take this shot!
This is the departure hall of Pudong International Airport of Shanghai. So I shall conclude our travel to South Yangtze China here. Bye bye Shanghai and China! I shall see you again later this year!

Let’s continue our photo travel to Phi-Phi Islands. We left Monkey Bay and arrived at Maya Bay at about 11:30am. If you were new to this travel blog and wish to know where we were coming from, read Part 1/2. Maya Bay is one of the most popular beach of Ko Phi-Phi Leh Island though there is no permanent inhabitants on the island. The Holywood’s movie, “The Beach” and the leading actor, Leornardi DiCaprio, have both further popularised Maya Bay (the main backdrop at where the movie was screened) as well as enahnced its image to the world.
You can count the number of boats and people in the photos above. There were full of tourists snorkelling, swimming and fish feeding there. We spent 1 hour there relaxing on the white sand beach, snapping lots of photos around and also very importantly, people watching!
Yeah! I’m taller than those lime rock mountains at the back!
What’s the essence of beautiful portrait shot? Clean and nice background… apart from the lighting off course in order to capture vibrant images.
With one exception that when you want to show the distractive background as part of the photo. As the above photo is full of distraction with people and mountain in background but it was the purpose of the shot to show how crowded the beach was…
That day weather was really perfect with beautiful sunshine and clear torquious sea water.
Beautiful scene of Maya Bay. We left Maya Baya at 12:30pm for another movie backdrop scene. This time we had to travel back in time to 20 years ago to see the cove where James Bond’s movie, The golden Finger was screened. What was next? Snorkelling time again at Loh Samah bay of Phi-Phi Leh. What tourists could do in Phi-Phi Islands at day are mainly swimming, snorkelling, diving, kayaking and fish feeding. These activities are carried in bays and coves of the 2 biggest islands of Phi-Phi, The Ko Phi-Phi Don and Ko Phi-Phi Leh.
Another great example of perfect lighting. I did nothing to the above 3 photos except some sharpening and resizing. No Saturation had been enhanced.
One lighting illusion I like very much is this example above. No shadow (or little bit) of boats could be seen on the sea surface although the sunlight was harsh. This made the object (the boat in this case) like pasted onto the photo but accidentally left out the shadow…
Most travel agents now are using speed boat for Phi-Phi Island excursion. It saves at least 2-3 hours from the journey if you were boarding at Phuket. I would strongly recommend this type of transport.
At 1:30pm, we left Ko Phi-Phi Leh for Phi-Phi Don for lunch. All of us onboard seemed exhausted and starving.
We passed by the ‘Viking Cave’ at Ko Phi-Phi Leh where bird nests are found and picked for the thriving bird nest soup industry in the region.
This is it: We were approaching Ko Phi-Phi Don, the biggest island of the islands group.
Buffet lunch was served at Long Beach of Phi Phi Don Island. Food varieties and quality were ‘normal’ with western and local Thai foods. Off course, Tom Yam soup was served as well.
What we could do after lunch? Some were shopping for souvenirs next door (above), some were relaxing under shade on the long beach (below) and some might wanted to stay out on seaside for the beautiful scenery (further below).
At 2:30pm, after our lunch at Phi-Phi Don, we headed to our last stop of Phi-Phi day tour, the Ko Phai or Bamboo Beach. Rows of beach chairs were provided for visitors to lie down, relax and maybe sun-bathe. Again, plenty of fish for travellers to feed and feel. This time round, I left my Nikon D60 on the beach chair and went out to snorkel and fish feeding! Great! At last I could feel the sea water of Phi-Phi Island rather than tell stories from the back of my camera view finder!
Off course, I needed to compromise. That’s was why no photos of Bamboo Beach could be seen here. Camera man was under water!
We left Phi-Phi Island and reached back to our Safari Beach Hotel at Patong Beach at about 6pm. The day trip to Phi-Phi Islands was concluded as a worthy and fascinating excursion with a cost of about THB2500 per adult.

The time has finally come. After 8 months of waiting after booking the air tickets, few weeks of planning for self-travelling, we were eventually going to depart to Phuket Island!
Before the day came, I have already pre-checked in our flight online a day ago to avoid disappointment or frustration over the flight with Air Asia [...]
Oh my god! I can’t imagine how am I going to sit upright in an Airbus without any onboard entertainment for 12 hours!! Why? I HAVE BOOKED AIR ASIA TICKET TO LONDON! After more than 10 years, I’ve finally got the chance (or gut?) to re-visit London! Of course, I’m hoping to visit the Top [...]
Hooray! Hooray! Air Asia free seats offer has come back again! Still remember their last free seats offer beginning of this year where I managed to grabbed zero fare tickets to Phuket? After 9 months, Air Asia is giving away more free seats to their loyal fans this round from 11th to 15th November 2009, especially budget travelers [...]
Wow! Sound serious right? Was it that bad? I’m sorry but to say “Yes!”, in terms of the way they list their price, and the final deal you will get. It could be as much as 80% discount!! (Could be more. This is only figure that we managed to get…) Is it considered serious? Can I [...]
On the second day of HangZhou tour, we have first tasted the top quality LongJin green tea in hinderland of West Lake. After that, we continued to visit another one of the West Lake top 10 scenes, Fish Viewing at the Flower Pond (花港觀魚). It is a park with lots of flower species and a carp fish pond within.
Again, we [...]
