A couple’s vacation can provide the perfect down time or alone time that the two of you have been craving for so long. However, choosing one of the more traditional locations may not get you the tranquility you’re seeking, simply because so many other couples have the exact same idea. Try one of these underrated locations instead that offer picture-perfect vacations, great value and plenty of privacy.
Panama
This lovely country seemingly floats between North and South America, a world unto its own. Whether you want an ecological getaway, peace and quiet, a beach getaway or dining and dancing, Panama can provide it. Hike in the Finca La Suiza rainforest, surf at Playa Las Lajas, relax in one of the many overwater bungalows offered by hotels, or catch the nightlife in Panama City. English is spoken in and around the larger cities, but a few words of Spanish (the native language) will help with understanding and good service.
Montana, United States
The state of Montana offers breathtaking beauty, fresh air, and every type of outdoor pursuit you could wish. While the largest city, Billings, has only 100,000 people, for those interested in natural beauty, you won’t find a more picturesque location. Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park offer scenic wonders found nowhere else in the world, and the state is dotted with old mining ghost towns, Custer’s final battlefield (Little Bighorn) and dude ranches. If the two of you like outdoor activities, this is a perfect choice for a getaway.
Monaco
If elegance and relaxation are more your style, Monaco fits the bill perfectly. This tiny (one square mile) principality oozes culture and wealth. Stroll along the harbor and marvel at the fabulous yachts bobbing in the warm water. Tour the open rooms at the Prince’s Palace in Monte Carlo, or try your luck in the Monaco Grand Casino, which is also an architectural delight on its own. Spend a romantic afternoon wandering the Jardin Exotique (Exotic Garden), a place guaranteed to make you fall in love all over again. Then wander into Old Town and have an exquisite dinner in one of the buildings that dates back to the Middle Ages.
Virginia Beach, Virginia, United States
“Virginia is for Lovers” is the motto of this state, and it’s most certainly true at Virginia Beach. Tucked into the South-east corner of the state and facing onto the Atlantic Ocean, many of the Virginia Beach hotels offer specials throughout the year aimed just at couples. Whether you enjoy sunbathing, shopping, outdoor activities or making good use of the “Do Not Disturb” sign, you can create a Virginia Beach getaway that’s perfect for the two of you. Look for a room with a balcony large enough for a table for two, and have at least one intimate dinner outside as the sun sets. With a warm ocean breeze and a bottle of wine, it’ll be an evening the two of you will long remember.

You don’t need to be a graduate of a top ranked university to assemble a smart parking strategy in Chicago when visiting for the day. If you’re spending time in the Windy City on any day but when the Bears are playing in town, then Soldier Field is undoubtedly one of the best places to park your car.
By resisting the urge to use your Capital One Venture miles to travel to Chicago with your family, you may think you’re going to pay a fortune in daily parking when going from sight to sight. But by starting at Soldier Field and working your way into the city, such expense can easily be avoided.
Here’s what you do. Park at Soldier Field for about $10 and walk across the street to the Field Museum, which should definitely be on your list of places to visit. Once you’ve had your fair share of fun there, head over to the Shedd Aquarium which is situated right behind the Field Museum on the lake front. From there you can take a bus up Lake Shore Drive to the Navy Pier.
From the Navy Pier, you can take a bus back down south to Randolph Street, where two blocks west you can hop on the El train which can take you to within blocks of virtually any Chicago destination. Chances are you’ll want to visit the Willis Tower among other downtown attractions, all of which will by this point be south of you.
Eventually you can complete a full circle, getting off the El at the Randolph street station you initially left from and taking a bus back down to Soldier Field. All the while your automobile stayed in the same spot and not once were you harassed by a parking attendant in some seedy lot to use your no foreign transaction fee credit card.
Just remember to avoid Soldier Field on game days, unless you plan on becoming a Bears fan by force.
