Statue of Kuta Seaview Bali “Come on Cecil, you mentioned about the Top 5 things to do on our vacation travel, Top 5 things to do before vacation travel, now what? Top 5 things NOT to do on our travel? Haven’t you highlighted that we should relax on our vacation? How could we follow so many rules of Do’s and Don’t's??”

He…He… you are absolutely true! But I did emphasize also our vision here in Travel Feeder: WORLD IS BIG, MONEY IS SMALL, LET’S TRAVEL BE WORTH EVERY PENNY THAT WE HAVE GOT! And our motto is: Maximize Our Travel Enjoyment, Minimize Our Budget and Enrich Our Limited Holidays. We could relax and do whatever we wish to during our vacation IF only we have the time and budget. If not, then we should not. These guidelines are for travelers who want to achieve maximum value out of their limited vacation, and after following them for once or twice, you should be able to repeat them in ease. Then only, you may consider to subscribe Travel Feeder’s FEEDs for more.

Before we could have unlimited days and money to do whatever we like and whatever mistakes it could be, please read on the following Top 5 Things NOT To Do On Your Vacation Travel:

  1. Don’t Trust Your Luck – Believe me. Only 1 out of 10000 of us or less would be so lucky to hit Jackpot or lottery prizes. Don’t ever believe in those vacation club scam for that 0.001% chances. During my vacation in Bali, many agents approached us and tried to persuade us to spend 3-4 hours to listen to some vacation club promotion briefing without any obligation and claimed we could walk away with some great prizes such as digital viewcam and even 10,000USD in cash! Well, whether it’s true or not, I couldn’t know. If you are willing to believe that you are lucky enough, then I wish you good luck. However, if you are just one of those 99.999%, you could lose your precious holidays time and even money which are already very limited nowadays;
  2. Don’t Against The Rules – What I’m referring to are the local rules, be it traffic rules, queuing rules, or the smoking rules. Don’t ever think that you are tourist so you could do whatever you like dispite the local rule says you couldn’t. Check with the local people on those basic rules or laws so you could follow while you are there. Every country has different laws on every things and I tell you, it would be great fun to follow what the local people are doing. Smoking for instance, joining the local people to smoke at the dedicated smoking area and saying ‘Hi’ to them can be interesting. Moreover, against the law could cause you a compound by the police which is again wasting time and money. My experience was not fastening the rear seat belt (which is not enforced in Malaysia) and cost us AUS250.00 in Australia!!
  3. Don’t Travel Under Pressure – Vacation travel is the fun thing to do. It meant to enrich your life, experience, refreshing you phisically and mentally. So you should not take it too seriously. Let the whole trip flows smoothly by itself. Remember, nothing is perfect, especially travelling abroad where you are unfamiliar with. There are always ad-hoc problems happened on your holidays. Don’t let your emotion and temper control you, you should control your emotion and temper; Consider problems as challenges and it would be more memorable with things happened that are not planned. Flying into a temper could only ruin your vacation and your travel partner’s as well;
  4. Don’t Trust Your Brain – Though our brains are always under utilised, we have only limited space for our retrievable memory storing space.Things happened few years ago could not be easily recalled especially what was happened during our holidays. No matter how good is your memory, certain details of your travel many years ago would be lost in your brain. So what could we do? As we mentioned in our Top 5 Things To Do On You Vacation Travel, takes as many photos as possible, inclusive of the surrounding area and you would be able to tell people your travel experience by photos completed, and
  5. Don’t over bought or wrongly bought – Please check with the airline for the allowable check-in luggage weight before you buy; Don’t buy items that are against your own country’s law such as certain drugs, plants, live stocks, porn video etc; Calculate also the tax payable for items that needs to declare to your local custom; Don’t buy any highly fragile items until you are 100% sure that it fits into your hand carry luggage, or, your airline could handle fragile items perfectly (which is definitely NOT AirAsia :( )

These guidelines are written and compiled with my many years of travel experience. I hope travelers could benefit from them in their next vacation plan. If you have other things NOT to do on travel which are different from the above, you may comment to this post. – Travel Feeder.

For those who are following Travel Feeder should have realised by now that some relevant travel tips are being inserted into Travel Feeder’s blog posts whenever we think is appropriate. However, those tips could sometimes be scattered all over the place without being properly organised. I realised the difficulties myself when I was searching for those travel tips that I have written. So I think it would be good to compile those tips that I have written each month and summarise them into this monthly post. For whoever new to Travel Feeder, you might find these travel tips informative to you as an essence of travel. The usual Top ’5′ is omitted from the title as travel tips written last month are more than that while I don’t want to miss out any of them.

It really took me sometimes to sort them all out….

  1. ALWAYS CHECK THE WEATHER SEASON OF YOUR TRAVEL DESTINATION BEFORE BOOKING YOUR TICKET!;
  2. ALWAYS IF POSSIBLE TRAVEL DURING OFF PEAK SEASON SO YOU WOULD HAVE BETTER BARGAIN POWER!;
  3. NEVER BOTHER TO HIRE CAR AND DRIVE YOURSELF HERE. YOU WILL GET LOST IMMEDIATELY!;
  4. Plan you holiday to Bali during June to August only for a clear sky without rain and breezing weather;
  5. It is always exciting to keep some souvenirs from the country so we could recall our memory about the place that we’ve been to everytimes we see that souvenir;
  6. ALWAYS JUDGE OR ESTIMATE YOUR LUGGAGE WEIGHT CAREFULLY BEFORE BUYING ANYTHING JUST TO MAKE SURE THE CHECK-IN LUGGAGE, IF POSSIBLE, IS STILL WITHIN THE LIMIT OF AIRLINES ALLOWANCE;
  7. ALWAYS STUDY THE AIRPORT LAYOUT OF YOUR DESTINATION CITY BEFORE YOUR TRAVEL IN ORDER TO MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHERE YOU COULD DO WHAT AND GET WHAT IN THE AIRPORT;
  8. book in advance hostel or Bed and Breakfast (you can try keying in ‘London’ in hostel search panel at my sidebar) which could save you 70% of accomodation;
  9. Buy London Pass for 6 days for £117 to get maximum saving on entrance fares and public transportation;
  10. Visit London in July or January for great saving on shopping during their 70% off store wide sales;
  11. get great late evening offer of 50% on breads in supermarket in UK such as Safeways or Tesco;
  12. grab a free newspaper at any railway station to look for any discounted staffs, and
  13. Always put priority on items taht could not be bought with money in your packing list.

For me, visiting a city that running or organizing a major game such as the Olympic or World Cup, is always my last option, unless it is not my first visit to the city. The reason why is that I would not be able to see the ‘real’ side of that city after the ‘decoration’ done by the government to [...]
