Top 5 Advantages Of Digital Camera For Your Travel
After having my 1st digital camera Nikon Coolpix 3 years ago as supplementary to my SLR, I decided to replace both with one single camera for travelling photos, and it’s going to be digital only. Digital camera has come to a stage to be able to fully replace our old film camera in recent years in terms of printout quality and affordability albeit few die hard fans still using film for advertisment and banner shooting. Unlike the low sensitivity of ISO up to 200 maximum and 4 Mega Piexel maximum few years ago, you could now easily find digital camera with high ISO of 6400 and above with 14MP with a lighter pocket price tag.
In fact, I was a die hard SLR fan before this as well when I was still carrying my bulky Nikon F70 with huge 28-200 zoom lens and plenty of Kodak ISO400 films along my honeymoon trip to Australia 3 years ago. Alongside I brought along the new at that time digital compact camera as a backup. It was the last time I did that. Since then I rarely brought my SLR out until it was stolen during my house break-in last year. Why?
These are my Top 5 Reasons why I think digital cameras are more suitable for travel:
- Easier And Safer To Carry - Unless you are carrying a complete kit set with multiple zoom lenses and bulky DSLR body, digital camera especially compacts are generally lighter and smaller or thinner. It can be easily inserted into your pocket which would be safer without exposing it to the ‘public’. On top of that, carrying ten or twenty rolls of film along could be a headache as well not to mention if one of them get lost on your travel. Digital cameras use one tiny 4GB SD memory card instead which can be even detached from the camera body any time for extra safety precaution;
- More Reliable and Safer To Point-And-Shoot - For travel addict like me, I like to snap whenever there is a scene to capture at the right time. Point-and-Shoot characteristic is the strong point for digital camera where its Live View feature on the LCD screen promises to deliver what-you-see-is-what-you-get. Unlike traditional film camera where you can know the result only after developing them and if you found you have set or shot some under- or over-exposed or hand-shaking-blur photos which is already too late;
- Cheaper To Trial-And-Error - Similar to the above facts, you could snap, snap, snap and snap as many shots on the same spot or scene as you like to select the Best picture thenafter. It will cost you some extra MB’s of your memory card that’s all. A perfect companion for budget travellers!;
- Comparable Image Quality nowadays - As mentioned in the intro above, technology advancment has improved the image quality of todays’ digital prosumer camera to be comparable, if not better than, the film camera. Though it’s still stepping through the spectrum from black to white, it is more than sufficient for travel potos (unless you’re willing to folk out 10 grands just to get a Sigma 4MP digital camera which will capture lights in 3 layers of sensor for realistic eye-view photos!) and
- Able and Easier To Self-Editing - Yes, especially in this era. We could play around our photos with different colours, brightness, saturation or even panoramic view all in PC, Free! Copy and paste, resize bigger or smaller, reduce noise, storing and distribute became easier and possible in this digital era. You can keep as many copies of the original photos in multiple media like SD’s, DVD, Hardisk or USB drive! Can you duplicate you film instead?
All these points are actually used to persuade my wife to actually allow me to buy a new camera!

Top 5 Tips To Plan For Budget Travel
‘Budget travel? Do I need that?’ Perhaps it’s just for me who has limited budget and time but been dreaming for travelling more. ‘What is budget travel?’ It’s as simple as a Travel with budget constraint as opposed to luxury travel. There are always 2 option of travel, either luxury or budget, and both have their pros and cons (not right or wrong). ‘What is the essence of budget travel?’ It’s a bit tricky here. For a good quality budget travel, it is not as simple as save money on your travel. The true essence of budget travel is to limit your budget on extravagance and spend sparingly but sufficiently on exploration of the local living and culture.
Clear? Let’s start our top 5 steps to plan for your budget travel as follows:
- Travel Destination - Firstly, you have to decide where you wish to travel most at this moment, somewhere you have been dreaming about all this while. At this stage, a rough budget is extimated. Surely said that you can’t choose a country or destination where you can’t even afford the air ticket or transportation cost! Thanks to the upcoming and popular budget airlines nowadays that travelling to lots of places in the world are no longer a dream only!;
- Set Your Budget - Set your exact affordble budget. Don’t stretch your credit card limit until couln’t pay back! Set budget for transport, travel expenses and some extra for your beer or coffee! Then you have to choose your option of travel: Luxury or Budget. If you decided on luxury travel, then add Travel Feeder to your RSS Feed reader for coming updated tips on luxury travel!
- Go online! - Book your air tickets online! The benefits are certainly the cost. Online booking is usually cheaper than drop-in as you are paying them in advance and which is normally NOT refundable! Visit one of your local budget airline websites to look for cheapest flights and time available. Malysian Air Asia for instance, air ticket price depends on the date and time of flights. The more advance you book, the more saving you could get! Some of the famous low cost Airlines are JetStar Australia, Tiger Airway Singapore, EasyJet England, Virgin America, Spanair Spain (Oops!) and Nok Air Bangkok (Oops Oops!!);
- Go online Too! - Book also your budget hostel online too, if possible. It will easily cut off half of your accomodation cost if you search around for the best deal and book in advance (off course after your flight booking confirmation). Hostel World is one good example of online hostel search engine which searches over 17,000 hostels in 168 countries! You just key in your destination and date in the form on top of sidebar and they will search for you NOW! Some might prefer to book the first few nights online and search and book the rest only when they reach there. This is good practice when you are planning to have some feeder trips from your original destination. Then off course, adjust your budget a little bit, and
- Finally, wait until tha date comes! - If you have time constraints or you are still under employment, apply leave in advance! Then read my previous posts on the Top 5 Things To Do Before Your Travel!
If you have observed it well, budget travel is all about planning your trip well in advance! Travel Tips: Last minute travel is always your last option of vacation travel. If you like this post, you may like to subscribe FREE to Travel Feeder’s RSS Feed. - Travel Feeder.
Travel By Photo - Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary
First of all, thanks for your participation in commenting and reading my last post about one little travel quiz: Where in the world the photo was shot? I’m now announcing the Winner: MARK H !!!! …. Uhmmm…. Not exactly the correct answer but it’s very close to it, at least it is the correct part of the world, Queensland, Australia.
The actual answer for the quiz and our travel destination for today is: Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, Brisbane. Lone Pine is actually famous for its world’s first and largest Koala bear sanctuary since 1927. Lorikeet feeding is only part of the wildlife activities you can have there everyday at 10am and 3pm. Visitors are coming as a day trip from Gold Coast or Brisbane (Lone Pine location map).
You can experience the life with the Aussie wildlife in the sanctuary such as feeding the colourful Lorikeet, holding a snake, cuddling a koala, watching the sheep dog show, hand feeding the Kangaroo, listening to the laugh of Kookaburra bird, feeding the don’t know what kind of turkey and many more.
Hey! Feeding the Koala without permission is prohibited.
There are over 130 koalas in the sanctuary, either it’s the northern or southern koala. They look sleepy to me…but cuddling one is definitely nice.
These are the more energetic group of young koala playing on the man-made ‘playground’.
BEWARE OF YOUR FINGERS! The sanctuary is actually huge with so many ‘don’t-know-the-name’ wildlives ‘walking’ around….
Kangaroo sanctuary is another attractive feature of Lone Pine as it’s the trademark for Aussie! ‘Come on baby, let me feed you a little nectar…’
Finally there’re the colourful Rainbow Lorikeet’s I showed you in the quiz before. Lorikeet is part of the parrot’s family and is beat known for its distinctive loud screech and green, blue, yellow and red feathers. They usually live in groups and can fly for long distances at great speeds in search of food. In summer, you will also see lorikeets taking a bath at Lone Pine’s water fountain.
You could also notice all sorts of different bird species that pay a visit to Lone Pine beautiful natural surroundings. Open daily from 8:30am to 5:00pm, you need to pay AUD22.00 (AUD17 for children) for visiting Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary (special koala cuddling photo not included which shall cost AUD15.00). “Wow! Not cheap mate!” “SHHHHH….. don’t shout, you will scare off the habitants…” For me, I think for a whole day trip at Lone Pine, capturing so many Aussie wildlives especially koala and kangaroo, the price is reasonable.
