Travel snapshot – Wishing tablets in Meiji Jingu Shrine, Tokyo

A snapshot on a divine tree with wishing tags hung and lined up. Ema, votive tablets for special personal prayers and gratitude towards the deities enshrines are sold in Meiji Jingu Shrine in Harajuku, Tokyo. Devotees stopping by the shrine can write their wishes on the back of the tablet and hang it on this dedicated rack for the divine tree, hoping that wishes can one day turn into reality.

Some EXIF info: Captured with Nikon D7000 and Nikkor 18-105mm lens attached. Shot in Program Auto mode, with Shutter speed 1/125 sec and Aperture f4.0. Focus distance was set to 26mm. Auto ISO 100. Daylight White Balance. No flash fired and NO exposure value being compensated with Matrix metering. This time my D7000 got everything right on the spot without me to adjust anything before pressing down the shutter button, or post-process it with software, except that I shot with manual Daylight WB which I found most suited for the scene and ambient lighting.

I don’t intend to disclose any private wishes here, but reading those wishes written had really warmed my heart and I do hope we could pray together for them. And I realised the power of deity here as those wishes are actually coming from international visitors with all languages!

Wishing tablets is something special to see and a norm religiously in Japan. Go and visit Japan to experience it in person. I love to holiday in Japan! 🙂 – Travel Feeder, your ultimate travel photo guide
