Travel snapshot – Braised duck in Skudai, Johor Malaysia

Since this is Visit Malaysia Year 2014 and many people are flocking into Johor of Malaysia for tourist attractions such as Legoland and Hello Kitty Land, I reckon recommendations over some of the local delicacies should sound good to travelers especially foreign visitors who visit Johor Bharu for the first time. Here is one of the popular Chinese specialty food you can find in Johor Bharu (JB). If you go JB for Legoland, it is worth to drop by and taste this famous braised duck in Skudai not far away.

Braised duck meal is popular in the Skudai region and you can find many of them around. What made this little restaurant under the tree so popular, besides the great food, is perhaps the environment. We picked a seat and sat down in Tai Ka Fat braised duck in Skudai. The restaurant has not too many tables and I love the spaciousness and its comfy environment. Beside the large open kitchen in front, there is a big banner on the inside wall with writing explaining the various benefits of eating duck in the eyes of Chinese medication.

The main dish is off course braised duck. It can be served with either rice or noodles. We ordered a portion of braised duck with noodles, a pair of braised soy sauce eggs, and a bowl of tofu skin. A complimentary bowl of herbal soup was served to every table. Beside what we ordered, they also serve other duck varieties ranging from duck meat, duck intestine, duck blood, duck tougue, as well as braised pork leg and pork intestine. Braised tofu, egg or tofu skin are always my favorites.

This version of braised duck in Skudai Tai Ka Fat restaurant is tender and soft and tastes really great. If you love roast duck, you should love braised duck as well. And if you love Legoland, then you should love Johor Bharu as well. Happy holidays to Malaysia. – Travel Feeder, your travel photo blog.
