This is an update post to the Top 5 Most Expensive Cities In The World 2008. It is still the vision of Travel Feeder to feed travel tips to travelers around the world so travelers could visit their dream cities with the least budget and highest value, even to the most expensive cities in the world. According to Mercer’s 2009 Cost Of Living Survey highlight released recently, Moscow, ranked 1st for 3 consecutive years, has dropped to become the 3rd most expensive city for expatriates, being knocked down by Tokyo as well as Osaka of Japan for the first time. Tokyo was only 2nd in year 2008’s survey. For those who doesn’t know about Mercer’s Cost Of Living Survey, Mercer’s survey covers 290 cities across six continents and 41 cities this year instead of 143 cities last year. The survey measures the comparative cost of over 200 items in each location, including housing, transport, food, clothing, household goods and entertainment. It is the world’s most comprehensive cost of living survey and is used to help multinational companies and governments determine compensation allowances for their expatriate employees. You would notice how much fluctuation is the ranking if compared to year 2008 top 5 expensive cities. This is mainly caused by the fluctuation in financial and currency due to the gloabal financial crisis last year.
