Travel gadget – Think Tank Photo Retrospective 7 messenger bag

Think Tank Photo Retrospective® 7, one of the best messenger bag that fits both your photo gears and iPad or Macbook Air in and remain compact and reasonably light.

There is no single camera can suit all photographers’ purposes. I own a Lowepro Inverse 100AW beltpack and I carried it to fit all my travel photography equipment along my previous travel to Europe, Beijing and Japan. While it is useful for outdoor shooting where both hands are needed to enjoy outdoor activities, city travelers will find its conspicuous look less appropriate for pub hopping at night or shopping at day. Security will start watching you for places where taking photos is prohibited, your camera equipment and personal belongings are too exposed and retailers will know that you are tourists. So which camera bag should city travelers carry on their travel, so they won’t look like a tourist yet stylish looking? I found it and have bought it right away! It is the latest Think Tank Photo’s Retrospective® 7 messenger bag.

Think Tank Photo is a U.S. based manufacturer that designs and sells camera bags and accessories designed for use by professional and advanced amateur photographers and multimedia producers, specially those who use digital SLR cameras. The company’s products are designed with the working photographer in mind and many of Think Tank camera bags are designed for the needs of the frequent air traveler.

The new ThinkTank Photo Retrospective 7 full-featured bag offers easy access and comfort for the travel photographer or event shooter. With an inconspicuous look, this soft-sided shoulder bag easily blends into any environment.

It has an internal dimension of just 12″ W x 8.5″ H x 5″D (30.5 x 21.6 x 12.7cm) and weighs 2.3-2.75lbs (1-1.2kg). The softness and flexibility of the Retrospective series easily allows a pro size DSLR to be carried in the main compartment with a lens attached, facing downward. There are 3 colour options available: Pinestone (greenish stone-washed as shown here), Black and Blue Slate.

It features a “Sound Silencers” to quiet the hook and loop closures when you are in a quiet environment.

It has a zippered organizer pocket inside the main compartment. The seam-sealed rain cover included with the Retrospective 7 is specially designed to keep the carrying handle and integrated shoulder strap outside the rain cover without compromising protection from the elements.

A second interior pocket holds pens, maps, additional business cards and has a convenient hook and loop closure.

The most attractive feature of Retrospective 7 to me is the zippered pocket at the back perfectly suited for an iPad or 11” MacBook Air or simply any netbook and tablets.

A fully adjustable, canvas strap is integrated into each Retrospective bag.  For extra comfort, a breathable cushioned pad slides along the strap for optimum positioning.  Sections of non-slip material on the pad helps keep the entire strap on your shoulder.

The Retrospective series each have a removable carrying handle for convenience. I personally love the Pinestone colour option which comes with a classic leather badge and zipper pull.

This is how it looks on my shoulder. It can be carried as a shoulder bag or across shoulder as a messenger bag. The whole bag is made of sand washed cotton canvas externally and nylon lining internally with padding in between. Zippers are YKK high durable products. This made a high quality and quite heavy bag (1.2kg) that seems to work for a lifetime!

After all, Think Tank Photo Retrospective 7 is a little stylish and quality messenger bag for the Tech Savvy FIT travelers. I used to carry 2 bags as my day packs on travel, one for all my photo equipments and the other for my iPad, water bottles and city map. For my upcoming Japan tour mkII, I’m going to save one and carry only this messenger bag! 🙂 Travel Feeder, your ultimate travel photo blog
