This is the group photo we posed before entering the Phuket FantaSea Show in Phuket. I wouldn’t have posed for this snapshot if without the old folk in our group. And we needed to pay 600Bht for it! For those of you who are going to Phuket and watch the show, and wish to know how it will look like for a photo shooting there, this is what you can get for 600Bht plus a soft copy in a CD. :)

Group photo at the show

I suspect the guy who captured this was using a Nikon P5000. But checking its EXIF data, it was actually a 8 MP Nikon E8400. I don’t know much about this camera but I think he reduced the image size to only 5MP and quality setting was set to FINE with flash fired. I didn’t adjust anything to the image. From my LCD, the colour appeared pale due to the direct built-in flash and people appeared to be slightly underexposed by 1/3 a stop. However, everything is appeared alright in the printed copy given to us. This again related back to the issue of different colour profile between our camera, LCD, Computer and printer which I still strive to find the perfect setting:( Travel Feeder.

    hi Cecil! Is Phuket really fun? Or it’s just lot of beach activities and commercialized? Never been there before.

    Regarding the campsite in Florence, are you travelling with your kids? For budget-wise and if you don’t mind tents, it’s ok, though it can be chilly at night. Wear more clothes to bed in case you wake up shivering!

    oooo where r u going to cover in Europe? As for Italy, be careful not to mess with their transport fare! They are out to fine tourists! It’s nothing new, we were already trying to be careful yet we got fined too!

    @Eunice,
    A straight forward answer would be Yes. Phuket is really fun. And yes, it’s quite commercialized if you are popping into the tourist area like Patong Beach. But the beach is still marvelous. You must enjoy their crazy nightlife there! Or the best is to engage a day trip to Phi-Phi island. Check it out the Phi-Phi island tour. Other than that, you can also tour around the island for Buddhist temples, wildlife, waterfall and so on. Oh ya, Thai massage is a must as well as trying out their authentic thai food. Great!
    Regarding Florence, we are travelling without my children. I think is good experience to stay in tent but is it very far away from the city, or the train station?

    @Eunice,
    Thanks for your tips. I’ve read through and left comments there. Due to time and budget constraint, we are going to cover about 7-8 major cities in central Europe ie. London, Paris, Nice (or Frankfurt), Milan, Venice, Florence, Pisa and Rome. Never expect there are so many safety issue there if compared to when I was there some 12 years ago! Think we have to be extra alert for those tips you mentioned. Thanks. :)

    Just got back from 1st trip to Phuket and it was great. Shopping in Patong around beach – don’t go until early evening – is safe enough…crowds etc, When bargaining ask the price then look shocked no matter what. Shake your head and say “nooo, nooo” then offer about 50% of their original price. They will look shocked….you shrug then start to walk away. They will follow and offer a price then you go lower. End up paying about 55-60% of original price.

    Then go have a cocktail on the beach!
    Have a massage on the beach too.
    Surin beach is amazing
    Have fun and suntan lotion up you and bub!

    I went for the show too when I was in Phuket. But unfortunately, didn’t quite enjoy the performance.

    @David,
    thanks for the tips.

    @Mei Teng,
    Me either. It’s boring to be exact. I prefer the XiHu Night show in Hangzhou much much more. Check out this clip of Xihu night show to compare… :)
