Travel By Photo - Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary
First of all, thanks for your participation in commenting and reading my last post about one little travel quiz: Where in the world the photo was shot? I’m now announcing the Winner: MARK H !!!! …. Uhmmm…. Not exactly the correct answer but it’s very close to it, at least it is the correct part of the world, Queensland, Australia.
The actual answer for the quiz and our travel destination for today is: Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, Brisbane. Lone Pine is actually famous for its world’s first and largest Koala bear sanctuary since 1927. Lorikeet feeding is only part of the wildlife activities you can have there everyday at 10am and 3pm. Visitors are coming as a day trip from Gold Coast or Brisbane (Lone Pine location map).
You can experience the life with the Aussie wildlife in the sanctuary such as feeding the colourful Lorikeet, holding a snake, cuddling a koala, watching the sheep dog show, hand feeding the Kangaroo, listening to the laugh of Kookaburra bird, feeding the don’t know what kind of turkey and many more.
Hey! Feeding the Koala without permission is prohibited.
There are over 130 koalas in the sanctuary, either it’s the northern or southern koala. They look sleepy to me…but cuddling one is definitely nice.
These are the more energetic group of young koala playing on the man-made ‘playground’.
BEWARE OF YOUR FINGERS! The sanctuary is actually huge with so many ‘don’t-know-the-name’ wildlives ‘walking’ around….
Kangaroo sanctuary is another attractive feature of Lone Pine as it’s the trademark for Aussie! ‘Come on baby, let me feed you a little nectar…’
Finally there’re the colourful Rainbow Lorikeet’s I showed you in the quiz before. Lorikeet is part of the parrot’s family and is beat known for its distinctive loud screech and green, blue, yellow and red feathers. They usually live in groups and can fly for long distances at great speeds in search of food. In summer, you will also see lorikeets taking a bath at Lone Pine’s water fountain.
You could also notice all sorts of different bird species that pay a visit to Lone Pine beautiful natural surroundings. Open daily from 8:30am to 5:00pm, you need to pay AUD22.00 (AUD17 for children) for visiting Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary (special koala cuddling photo not included which shall cost AUD15.00). “Wow! Not cheap mate!” “SHHHHH….. don’t shout, you will scare off the habitants…” For me, I think for a whole day trip at Lone Pine, capturing so many Aussie wildlives especially koala and kangaroo, the price is reasonable. Top 5 Travel Blog Review Of The Month - August 08
This is the second consecutive month after we kick started this exciting project last month: The montly review of the Top 5 Travel Blog in the world. This review extends our commitment to provide another source of travel guides to our readers through recommending the latest popular travel websites around us. Same as last month, we picked only 5 of the many travel blogs we explored in the internet as our top 5 travel blogs of our choice, in terms of its ingenuity, popularity, informative and easy reading plus frequently updated. From there, we review each one of them and add this blog to our featured Travel List so that our readers could, in addition to all the travel tips and guides we are feeding, further benefit from these carefully selected travel blogs. Happy reading!
This month, for the second month, based on our criteria, we picked and reviewed these 5 travel blogs of the month: August 08:-
Malaysia Food Blog, Malaysia Travel Blog - The title says it all; It’s all about foods and travel in Malaysia. That’s partly why I love this blog. For a blog of slightly more than 2 years old, Ah Lum, the author has been concentrating on all kind of good foods and hot places in Malaysia. His efforts in promoting Malaysia is very encouraging. Apart from the ’straight-to-the-point’ blog title, what this blog really caught my attention is those sharp close-up photos he took by his Canon Powershot which are extremely fantastic! I shall say that whatever food and places shot by him will all turn delicious and attractive! Oops! I meant more delicious and more attractive… phew… A google Pagerank-4 site with over 600 unique visitors/day, MFBMTB is surely successful. Reasons why are very simple: Good contents, distinguished close up photos, clean blog layout and easy to navigate about. Light or white blog background colour just make those photos more outstanding. He argued that his english writing is not as narrative but at least he is better than mine. If you want him to review your food, you could always ask him, for Free (For the moment)! ;
Travel Blissful - Previously called Blissful Travel, this travel blog posts articles about trends in travel, travel destinations, foods, events, fashion to travel gadget! The author, Erica Johansson is a freelance writer and photographer from Sweden. Her tempting writing skill has made all posts alive and attractive for reading further. It was an interesting experience when I just couldn’t resist but to continue reading for more then 20 posts in my first visit to Blissful Travel. Though some of them are featured post by other travelers, her careful selection of such contents has just made her blog more informative. How about her blog layout and theme? From Blogger.com to self hosted, Erica blogs on Wordpress platform now and the magazine-like blog theme just made Travel Blissful even better to read. Only one thing to complain: No current potrait of Ms. Erica for me to post it here (hope Ms. Erica won’t mind to let me post her childhood potrait here instead);
iTravelnet - Initially created by James Clark as a travel directories for travelers. James launched his blog section in year 2006 to feature all his travel experience, news and tips with plenty of photos and these have further enriched his already informative travel blog. You could find lots of travel information including links to hotels, airlines, insurance and travel blogs as well. You know what? Travel feeder is featured in the list too
! About the blog design: Four columns simple wordpress theme while black and blue coloured text on white background surely impressed readers for its professionalism. And I personally love his review of every single detail of Singapore city but when are you coming to Malaysia again?;
Lifecruiser - One of the common charateristic of a popular travel blog is the author’s ability to humor. Lifecruiser has it. Though the author, nicknamed Mrs. Life Cruiser hasn’t got as wide the travel experience around the world as some other travelers, Mrs. Lifecruiser has successfully written posts around her country, Sweden, in such an amusing manner. Readers especially travelers love these style, including me!! Mrs. Life Cruiser just loves to enjoy her life, blog only when she feel like and most importantly, it’s not just for money (according to Mrs. Life Cruiser but if she sells it, whoever like it will need to pay over $500k for how much it worth!), friends and family are her assets as well. It could be witnessed from all her and Mr. Lifecruiser’s outing and parties sessions with their friends. About the blog design: I would say unique and beautiful. Custom designed by Leanne Wildermuth, Mrs. Life Cruiser is just another pirate of the Carribean, anchored in Sweden. Because of copyright issue, I could only post this cartoon figure here….
Everything Everywhere - Yes, it’s about everything in everywhere in the world Mr. Gary Arndt has travelled to. This is a travel blog about travel experiences of a self-traveler with full of exciting moments. ….Gary explained: [The question I get all the time from everyone I talk to about my trip is “where are you going?” My reply is always “everywhere”]. Since March 2007, Gary has visited many places in New Zealand, Australia and also Asia countries, including my Malaysia
. All are without proper planning and schedule. He just made me jealous for this scarce opportunity to travel alone with little time and cost constraints (Wow, when could I have a chance like his?). Great expedition experience, lively writing skill and nice photos are 3 main attractions for such a popular blog with over 600 RSS subscriptions! About the blog design: no fuss 3-column layout, straight to the point, clearly distinguished content area with white coloured background. After all, Gary is good in internet marketing too!
These are the Top 5 Travel Blogs I discovered last month and which I think are worth a review from Travel Feeder. And because they are so popular with so many fans around, I really stretched my head and spend more hours to write this review more carefully. I hope you will like this as much as I do. And if you like this post and hope to have more stories and regular updates from me, please spare a couple of minute to Subscribe to Travel Feeder’s RSS Feeds - Travel Feeder.
Top 5 Things NOT To Do On Your Vacation Travel
“Come on Cecil, you mentioned about the Top 5 things to do on our vacation travel, Top 5 things to do before vacation travel, now what? Top 5 things NOT to do on our travel? Haven’t you highlighted that we should relax on our vacation? How could we follow so many rules of Do’s and Don’t’s??”
He…He… you are absolutely true! But I did emphasize also our vision here in Travel Feeder: WORLD IS BIG, MONEY IS SMALL, LET’S TRAVEL BE WORTH EVERY PENNY THAT WE HAVE GOT! And our motto is: Maximize Our Travel Enjoyment, Minimize Our Budget and Enrich Our Limited Holidays. We could relax and do whatever we wish to during our vacation IF only we have the time and budget. If not, then we should not. These guidelines are for travelers who want to achieve maximum value out of their limited vacation, and after following them for once or twice, you should be able to repeat them in ease. Then only, you may consider to subscribe Travel Feeder’s FEEDs for more.
Before we could have unlimited days and money to do whatever we like and whatever mistakes it could be, please read on the following Top 5 Things NOT To Do On Your Vacation Travel:
- Don’t Trust Your Luck - Believe me. Only 1 out of 10000 of us or less would be so lucky to hit Jackpot or lottery prizes. Don’t ever believe in those vacation club scam for that 0.001% chances. During my vacation in Bali, many agents approached us and tried to persuade us to spend 3-4 hours to listen to some vacation club promotion briefing without any obligation and claimed we could walk away with some great prizes such as digital viewcam and even 10,000USD in cash! Well, whether it’s true or not, I couldn’t know. If you are willing to believe that you are lucky enough, then I wish you good luck. However, if you are just one of those 99.999%, you could lose your precious holidays time and even money which are already very limited nowadays;
- Don’t Against The Rules - What I’m referring to are the local rules, be it traffic rules, queuing rules, or the smoking rules. Don’t ever think that you are tourist so you could do whatever you like dispite the local rule says you couldn’t. Check with the local people on those basic rules or laws so you could follow while you are there. Every country has different laws on every things and I tell you, it would be great fun to follow what the local people are doing. Smoking for instance, joining the local people to smoke at the dedicated smoking area and saying ‘Hi’ to them can be interesting. Moreover, against the law could cause you a compound by the police which is again wasting time and money. My experience was not fastening the rear seat belt (which is not enforced in Malaysia) and cost us AUS250.00 in Australia!!
- Don’t Travel Under Pressure - Vacation travel is the fun thing to do. It meant to enrich your life, experience, refreshing you phisically and mentally. So you should not take it too seriously. Let the whole trip flows smoothly by itself. Remember, nothing is perfect, especially travelling abroad where you are unfamiliar with. There are always ad-hoc problems happened on your holidays. Don’t let your emotion and temper control you, you should control your emotion and temper; Consider problems as challenges and it would be more memorable with things happened that are not planned. Flying into a temper could only ruin your vacation and your travel partner’s as well;
- Don’t Trust Your Brain - Though our brains are always under utilised, we have only limited space for our retrievable memory storing space.Things happened few years ago could not be easily recalled especially what was happened during our holidays. No matter how good is your memory, certain details of your travel many years ago would be lost in your brain. So what could we do? As we mentioned in our Top 5 Things To Do On You Vacation Travel, takes as many photos as possible, inclusive of the surrounding area and you would be able to tell people your travel experience by photos completed, and
- Don’t over bought or wrongly bought - Please check with the airline for the allowable check-in luggage weight before you buy; Don’t buy items that are against your own country’s law such as certain drugs, plants, live stocks, porn video etc; Calculate also the tax payable for items that needs to declare to your local custom; Don’t buy any highly fragile items until you are 100% sure that it fits into your hand carry luggage, or, your airline could handle fragile items perfectly (which is definitely NOT AirAsia
)
These guidelines are written and compiled with my many years of travel experience. I hope travelers could benefit from them in their next vacation plan. If you have other things NOT to do on travel which are different from the above, you may comment to this post. - Travel Feeder.
