We Can Now Travel To Japan Again After The Pandemic. Finally

Hooray! We can finally holiday in Japan again! For me, and certainly to those like-minded travellers out there, this is definitely the best news to hear since COVID-19 broke out 2 years ago. As announced by the Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on 22 September, Japan will be fully reopening its borders starting today on 11 October! This means all tourists activities are resumed back to the stage prior COVID-19 where total tourist numbers are not capped, visa-free travel is resumed, and FITs are allowed to return.

Travellers will no longer be required to book a tour from any tour agencies starting 11 October. Before this, one of the main culprits for leisure travellers to visit Japan is that they must visit as part of packaged tours.

At the same time, visa-free travel will resume for travellers from countries that did not require a visa pre-COVID, which includes Malaysia and 67 other countries.

Prior to Covid-19, Japan allowed visitors from 68 countries and regions, including the United States and Singapore, to stay for as long as 90 days without a visa. Visitor numbers reached a record of almost 32 million in 2019, but slumping to about 246,000 last year.

Since COVID-19 deadliest threat has now seemed to recede with the current variants and most of the countries worldwide are tagging it as an endemic instead of pandemic, we are seeing tourism industries to recover rapidly to its stage prior the pandemic, if not huge boom.

From my past experience to Japan, I found that the best way to explore its countryside as well as travel destinations is by travelling independently without joining packaged tours. So now is definitely the best time for you to start planning your next Autumn travel to Japan! Despite my numerous travels to Japan before the pandemic, it is still remained as my top “To Go” countries if conditions allowed.
