Copenhagen is a vibrant city with excellent nightlife across each and every corner. During 1st weekend in June, Danish are coming out to town to celebrate nightlife with whole evening of street dance parties, mobile clubbing and contemporary art festival to welcome the arrival of hot climate of Summer. They called it the Copenhagen Distortion festival 2011. This 5-day-middle-size-street-festival stretching from first Thursday to Sunday of each June, is organized by the NUS/NUS company, a non-profit cultural event organization of Copenhagen. The festival is held on each day in different areas of Copenhagen with streets being closed for the event.

I have long heard of it and it was one of my reason to visit Copenhagen on my Europe Travel last month. I was lucky enough to have the 1st celebration of 1st June in the city centre around Stroget area, on my first day in Copenhagen. After checking into our hostel nearby, I grabbed my cameras out to take some travel photos for the festival.

Crowds started to draw into the Stroget and surrounding areas since 6PM. Jean and I were there strolling down street after street enjoying people watching with Tuborg in both of our hands. There are kiosks selling crepes and waffles all over the place. Not to mention mobile bar selling beers, mostly local such as Carlsberg and Tuborg.

Each club or bar has its own theme or idea of advocacy, as we saw groups of Danish dressed up differently and marched towards their spots of action. Some are dressed up as movie characters, death bodies, ballet dancers, and so on.

Not only crowds but bicycles as well were seen all over the streets. Copenhagen is one of the city outside China with the most cyclists around.

Everyone seemed to be having a great time in this festival of Copenhagen Distortion 2011. We enjoyed our time there as well, albeit it’s our first ever evening in Copenhagen. Here are some of the other photos that I captured in the festival, before having too much alcohol in my stomach and the sky getting darker.

A mobile dance floor set up beside the “Church of Our Lady”. It was still early when I shot this photo. When I got back there later at night, the whole are was packed like h*ll!

Caribbean music and dance show…

Com’on ladies, cheers! (A common homosexual scene in this gays and lesbians friendly city of Copenhagen
) This was the last shot I took in the festival as I had to stopped shooting and started drinking!

Final words. Even though there were ten’s of thousand people flocking into the area for this celebration and made every streets jammed up, we felt extremely comfortable and safe partying around without any uneasy feeling and bad experience as tourists. Copenhagen is definitely a fun place for nightlife as a traveler. Thumbs up for this!!

Having spent 4 days in London last Spring, I’m planning for another visit to London this Summer. What made me so falling for London, apart from those good memories during my post graduate studies in London, are the people, their culture, and also the countless attractions there. I feel like going home whenever I travel to London. With their warm hearted services and great English breakfast, London hotels are also another factor that make me going back again.
Spending 4 days in London is simply not enough to cover all their attractions. There are so many things a visitor can do in London. I grouped them into top 5 categories so it would be easier for reference. Every traveler visiting London should not miss to do any of these:
- Sightseeing and photo taking -London’s rich history and great architecture have developed a city with full of landmarks for visitors to explore. Iconic architecture such as the Tower Bridge, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, St. Paul Cathedral, Buckingham Palace and British Museum are some of the must-see’s in London. Along the sightseeing tour, taking photos is also a must-do thing to capture them into a beautiful album of breathtaking pictures.
- Food and Beverage – Beside those London’s attractions, travelers must also try the authentic British food such as Fish-and-Chips, the English breakfast, English high tea culture with lots of scones, and those local favourites such as Turkey’s Kebab or Chinese sweet and sour chicken. At night, pub crawling at Soho will make you fall in love with its joyful nightlife.
- Shopping – No London travel will complete without paying a visit to its world renown The Harrods departmental store. For middle class fashion, hop off at Oxford Street and you will find all the local designer boutiques you can think of. For hippies and rockers, head over to Camden Markets for something alternatives.
- Travel about – London has one of the oldest and most comprehensive sub-way called London Underground. First thing to do in London is to buy a travel card to travel within London city centre with their underground trains to experience the 11 different Lines and multi storey platforms. With the same travel card, visitors can also hop onto the iconic Red Buses instead. Fancy, old fashion black cab could also be your next means of transport in London.
- Leisure and theatre – After all the above, it would be memorable to spend some times doing nothing but just relaxing in one of the many parks in London city centre, such as Hyde Parks or St. James’ Park. At night, try booking a ticket to enjoy some famous theatre around Leicester Square and Soho area. Some travelers may prefer to have London theatre breaks when they plan for holidays in London.
If you are visiting London for the first time, this would be a good list of things to do in a few days. I had a great fun visiting London last Spring. And I have done most of the above top 5 things in London, if not all. This Summer, I will do them again. Hopefully, I could repeat it over and over again each year…

London is a fantastic place to visit. Steeped in history with dozens of top class attractions and things to do for all the family, it’s great for a weekend city break or choose a longer stay to really get under the skin of one of the world’s great capitals. London is also, perhaps surprisingly, easy to get around thanks to an excellent bus, tube and train network while the centre is quite compact making it easy to walk between many of the sights.

London accommodation is plentiful, reflecting the huge number of business and leisure visitors to the city and London’s enduring popularity. Some of the biggest hotel chains can be found here and London has a variety of truly top class, deluxe hotels – with high-end prices to match! There are also many boutique and designer hotels offering London accommodation with a twist of extra design and style.
Many of these hotels are located in the West End, close to the heart of the city and within walking distance of the big attractions you will have on your itinerary. Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament, Covent Garden and a wide range of world class museums and galleries are just some of the must-see sights of the capital.
Remember too that London has many ‘villages’ that are also home to smaller hotels and bed and breakfasts. Prices are likely to be less than in the centre of the city and you can get a feel for real local neighbourhoods and communities.

Another great option is to stay in a holiday apartment London. London can be an expensive place to stay, especially if you have to add on the cost of buying lunch and dinner every day. By deciding to stay in an apartment you can choose to cook your own meals, potentially saving lots of money on eating out. An apartment also gives you complete flexibility about when to get up and when to have your meals. And rather than have just one room to relax in you can spread out a bit more. Apartments can have several bedrooms making them ideal for families or groups of friends and a really cost-effective option. Like hotels, city apartments London still come with the range of extras you might need such as baby cots, while parking is often available too. In addition to the city centre locations, apartments can be found in many of the capital’s best neighbourhoods such as Kensington, Fulham and Chelsea, giving you a chance to live the life of a well-heeled Londoner for a few days.
Looking again at hotels, another good London accommodation option is the budget hotel chains. They offer a more basic range of services but still provide excellent, quality places to stay at more affordable prices and often in good and central locations.
Whatever the size of your wallet, or your accommodation preference, London is undoubtedly going to have a large range of places to stay to choose from.

This is my first attempt to shoot KLCC Petronas Twin Tower in Kuala Lumpur with my new travel DSLR Nikon D7000, hand held at night! The result was amazing to me! I could never believe that I was able to capture any travel night scene without dragging any bulky tripod along with me on travel. [...]
If you are a wine lover and don’t quite like the ever crowded city environment in Florence and Pisa, Chianti region is where you must visit for at least a day in Tuscany. Chianti is the wine region in Italy producing the famous Chianti Classico wine bearing the authentic Gallo Nero (black rooster) label. It’s [...]
