If you are watching Astro and you are a travelling enthusiat, then you should have watched the Lonely Planet travel show on channel 707, The Discovery Travel and Living channel. Lonely Planet is an UK-based travel company that publishes tips and guides for travelers online, over TV or books.
Recently on the 2nd of November, Lonely Planet released its latest issue of Best In Travel 2010 guide and various top 10’s of different categories were published. Among them are the Top 10 Best Value Destination to Visit In Year 2010, Top 10 Countries To Visit in 2010, Top 10 Cities and Top 10 Regions of the world to visit in year 2010.
Off course, what most unexpected while inspiring is my beloved country, Malaysia, is in! Malaysia is selected by Lonely Planet as one of the Top 10 Best Value destination for travelers to visit in year 2010 ! Hurray!
Lonely Planet, the publisher from UK, in its Best In Travel 2010 guide, said Malaysia “is a clever choice for travellers on the lookout for a bargain”.
I’m so excited and wish to introduce briefly my country, Malaysia, to whoever hasn’t or wish to come here. Malaysia is a multi racial nation with Malay, Chinese and Indian as 3 major ethnic groups among others, and they live very well together in a peaceful environment. Moreover, our current premier initiated “1 Malaysia” concept recently which will further harmonize our population.
Malaysia is a tropical country with rain forest covering majorities of our lands. It is separated into West and East Malaysia. They are peninsular with seas surrounding them. So travelers could find beautiful beaches all over Malaysia as well as rainforests and highlands. However, modern metropolitan living and environment could always be found in most major cities such as Kuala Lumpur, George Town, Ipoh and Johor Bahru. Since Malaysia tropical weather is hot with plenty of rainfall, bright sunshine is throughout the year. Off course, local people are friendly, helpful and cheerful, just like me!

While I applaud M’sia for making the list, I do hope whatever people see in those ads etc (M’sia Truly Asia campagin)are actually delivered. Advertise something and people experience something else short of quality isn’t something that will make a trip memorable.
Interesting lists indeed. Only Malaysia makes both top 10 value and top 10 country to visit. Nothing for Australia though it is more espensive for visitors at present with its high A$. Of the top ten cities that I’ve been, Cuenca is an undiscovered wonder in Ecuador with stunning colonial arhcitecture and a nieghbouring national park which has superb trekking.

That is good news indeed for Malaysia-making it to the list for the right reason. I am sure visitors coming over here would be pleasantly surprised on the array of experiences to be had.

Thanks for the info. I plan to visit Malaysia in May. is it a good time to visit?
I am also glad that my country, India, is on the list!
@Madhu,
Hi there. Great to hear you are visiting Malaysia this May. Generally it is a good time to visit most of Malaysia as there are less rain at that time though you could expect some haze in towns. The best is to visit islands such as Pulau Redang, Pulau Langkawi, Pulau Perhentian or Pulau Tioman where you could expect bright sun and blue sky! Or else visiting highlands such as Genting highland and Cameron Highland would be a good choice to have a cooler environment.
Hope this would help. See ya!
