This is a short post. It’s about a snapshot of a monkey eating leaves on Bukit Melawati or nicknamed Monkey Hill in Kuala Selangor. I love to shoot portraits of my children, my pets, people and portraits of animals. However, love doesn’t mean good. I love golf doesn’t mean I’m good in it. Same with photography. I love to shoot portraits but I’m not good in it. The most difficult part of a portrait shot is the ability to capture the emotion and expression in that tenth or thousandth of a second moment while they are still moving (alive?). Technically, for a moving object like an animal or child (off course not those models who are paid to pose still), it is even more difficult to capture them sharp focusing onto their eyes. And you need a really fast lense like Nikkor 35mm f1.8 fixed lense or, under really good natural sunlights or artificial softboxes. Normally, out of 10 portraits that I shot, only 1 or 2 are satisfactorily, to me. So, I’m still learning and trying…
This is one of those few shots that I managed to capture and focus onto the eyes of a long tailed monkey (or silverleafed monkey?) during my recent short trip to Kuala Selangor, the old royal capital of Selangor state of Malaysia. That’s one beautiful monkey. I have seen long tailed macque but not of this kind.
That’s one beautiful monkey. I normally use a longer zoom for wildlife coz that would be less distracting and you’re at a safer distance from them.

Wah.. u can stand so close to this monkey? Once when I was in Penang Botanical Gardens, one of the monkeys was very fierce and shrieked at us.
