Muscat

Muscat is the capital city of Oman, and it has much to recommend it to you as a wonderful place to visit.

Sohar

If you were ever curious about where Sinbad came from, this is the place. It has been a port town for a long time, and a site of copper mining for around 5000 years.

It has great beaches and a lot of sites of archaeological interest.

There is a wonderful museum called the Sohar Fort Museum, which is inside the fort, which was built by the Emirs of Hormuz in the 13 and 4th centuries.

As with all of the great cities of Oman, there is a great Souq, where you can get medicine, handicrafts, and antiques.

Nizwa

In the 6th and 7th century Nizwa was the capital of Oman, and it was the first city to convert to Islam.

It is known for date cultivation, and is an hour and a half southwest of Muscat.

It is the site of another impressive fort, this one built by Imam Sultan bin Saif al Ya’rubi. It is known for being one of Oman’s most visited national monuments.

Nizwa also has one of five aflaj, which are gravity fed irrigation systems. This is a World Heritage Site that has been in operation since 2500 BCE.
