Top 5 Photo Spots on the Amalfi Coast

Guest Post by Laura Thayer

Travelers from around the world come to the Amalfi Coast in southern Italy’s Campania region to take in the soaring cliffs, stunningly clear Mediterranean Sea and the charming villages located along this gorgeous coastline. If you’re an avid photographer, you might be wondering where to find the best photo spots on the Amalfi Coast. I love taking photos, and after living on the Amalfi Coast for the past three years, I am happy to share my top 5 favorite spots for capturing the beauty of the Amalfi Coast.

1. Villa Cimbrone, Ravello

A visit to the mountain village of Ravello should be at the top of the list for everyone traveling to the Amalfi Coast. But this is especially true for photographers. You’ll find expansive views over the Bay of Salerno, and on a clear day you can see the coastline from the seaside towns of Minori and Maiori all the way to Salerno. For the best views, be sure to visit the gardens of the Villa Cimbrone where you’ll find the aptly named Terrace of Infinity, pictured above, where it really feels like you can see to infinity.

2. Sentieri degli Dei, Positano

Photographers and hikers will swoon over the views from the Sentieri degli Dei walk high above Positano. The expansive views looking down the Amalfi Coast all the way to the tip with the island of Capri just beyond inspired the name of this hiking path, which means Pathway of the Gods.

3. Valle dei Mulini, Amalfi

The seaside town of Amalfi is a dream for photographers. Once you’ve explored the town, consider hiking up into the Valle dei Mulini (Valley of the Paper Mills) where you’ll find the ruins of the town’s once prosperous paper mills. Hiking higher up into the valley leads to fine views looking over the top of Amalfi toward the sea.

4. Punta Campanella

For a real taste of the dramatic beauty of this rugged coastline, hike or drive down to the tip of the Amalfi Coast at Punta Campanella. This point is named after the watchtower, rebuilt in the 16th century, that once rang its bells to warn about pirate attacks. From here you’ll have views of the island of Capri just 3 miles (5 km) away and the gorgeous Bay of Ieranto, a protected natural reserve on the Amalfi Coast.

5. Boat ride along the Amalfi Coast

One of the best ways to see the soaring coastlines and beauty of the Amalfi Coast is by boat. Whether you rent a private boat for a day or hop on one of the ferries or jets between Salerno, Amalfi, Positano and Capri, you’re in for some mighty fine views. Grab your camera and head on the top deck of the ferry boats for the best shots along the coastline.
