Top 5 Elements of Travel that decide your Europe travel budget

Traveling to Europe has proved to be an expensive leisure, due to its high living standard and also its Euro currency. Budgeting for an Europe tour is then difficult for all budget travelers who travels in a limited budget. Choosing accommodation, planning itinerary, booking transportation, period of travel, all of these inevitably play a major role in Europe travel budgeting.

How much are you willing to spend on accommodation in Europe? How much can you afford on an accommodation in any European city? How much should you spend on a bed to sleep and a bathroom to shower?

Domestic trains

The best person to answer all these questions is no other person but you yourself. Even though the cost to visit Europe is generally higher than to visit other parts of the world, there are still ways to save some cost here and there to meet or be not too far off your budget. Dublin hotels can be expensive if it’s on O’ Connell Street in city centre, but try adjusting the configuration of travel elements (such as food and transport), and it might still fit the bill. Depends on the budget, here are 5 elements of travel that control and make up your Europe tour budget:

  1. Flight Ticket – Flight tickets to and from Europe constitute the biggest part in Europe travel budget, which could reach as high as 30%! You could lower this cost by either grabbing an early bird air tickets from budget airlines or, stay longer in Europe to lower down the cost percentage;
  2. Local transportation – Other than air tickets to the first and from the last destination in Europe, you will need plenty of domestic transportation in between cities and countries in Europe. This will normally constitute another 30% of your budget. This is also the most tricky part of your planning where careful arrangement to travel from 1 city to another will definitely save you hundreds! The best and worst example of mine was to spend an extra 200Euro just to add a detour trip to Keukenhof Tulips garden in last minute!
  3. Accommodations – Logically, the more you require, the more you need to pay. The nearer the accommodation to the city centre, the more expensive it’s going to be. Hotels in London centre definitely are more dearly than in London outskirt. However, staying in city centre could save you time and transport cost to explore some cities.
  4. Period of travel – As simple as 123. The longer you travel, the more Euros you need to spend in Europe. However, by looking at it in another aspect, staying more days in each city will otherwise lower you average daily cost by even out your transportation cost between cities!
  5. Foods and entrance tickets – This constitute the least percentage of Europe travel cost. And they are more flexible to budget. The more budget you have, the more museum visit and expensive local foods you can have. If you have really tight budget, just eat cheap and choose those Free-Of-Charge destinations to visit! Unlike transportation cost where you definitely need to spend to travel between cities whether you like it or not!
