Travel guide – Planning a short trip to Bali

Bali is a special travel destination to me. It is an Indonesian island located in the westernmost end of the Lesser Sunda Islands, with mostly Indonesians reside there. However, even though Indonesia has the most Muslims in the world, most of the local Balinese (over 90%) are Hindu. Its unique culture is highly influenced by Balinese Hinduism. While strongly believing in the religion, Balinese are also open to western cultures. While lots of Hindu temples are seen everywhere, nightlife with loud music is found popular in tourists spots in Bali.

Attractions on your short trip to Bali

It has attractive landscape with beautiful beaches and volcanic mountains. People there are also famous for their graceful and decorous behavior. All these have made trip to Bali a special arrangement with much serenity to spend a Sunday alone on.

In the Sunday morning, I woke up early to enjoy a good breakfast at my hotel in Kuta. To explore the city alone, I decided to hire a taxi to bring me to the next town of Ubud. Ubud is a centre of art where wood carving, oil paintings and traditional Baron dancing can be seen everywhere. I spent the morning hours strolling down the streets with shops selling wood crafts and paintings.

At noon, I went up to the highland area of Kintamani to enjoy the smokey scenes of the active volcano Mount Badur and the serene Lake Badur while having a mountain of buffet lunch. After the lunch, I continued to relax on the highland with a cup of local Balinese mountain coffee.

In the afternoon, I dropped by the Holy Water Temple for a holy bath, before heading back to Tanah Lot which is not far away from North of Kuta. I planned to make sure I reached Tanah Lot before sunset as it is the perfect place to view sunsetting with the Tanah Lot temple located off the shore.

Foods on your trip to Bali

There are always food stalls along beaches in Bali selling various local snacks and drinks. It was great to sit on the beach trying their beef noodle and the ‘Rojak’ (spicy fruit salad) while waiting for the sun to set and took photos after photos.

Wondering how good is Balinese seafood, I went to another city of Jimbaran, 30 minutes drive south of Kuta, to experience the famous seafood dinner, on the beach! There are more than 20 seafood restaurants along the beach where tables are all put on the sand!

How did I end my Sunday night with? Before jumping into my bed, I had some cheap local Bintang beers and enjoyed some loud music in HardRock cafe of Kuta… :).
