Food Critic Chua Lam (Choi Lan) is here at Lot 10 Hutong, Kuala Lumpur

For those fans of the Hong Kong celebrity food critic, Mr. Choi Lan, or Chua Lam (蔡澜) this must be a big surprise: “Chua Lam is here in Kuala Lumpur!” And I managed to catch him live in action at the Kuala Lumpur‘s latest food centre, the Lot 10 Hutong (十号胡同). As one of the top 3 best travel secrets of KL, Lot 10 Hutong is one food court with all the KL local street foods. Mr. Chua Lam was screening for his food critic TV programme when I was reviewing the Bak Kut Teh at Hutong.

This was the first take. Mr. Chua Lam was walking into Lot 10 with 2 beautiful young ladies (TVB actresses), quietly.

The producer commented they were  too quiet and this was another take with some conversation between them.

Lot 10 Hutong is at the lower ground floor. They took 3 times to shoot walking down the escalators.

As Chua Lam’s usual critic style, he was being shot walking through the food stalls one by one, meanwhile, explaining to his companions about those delicious Malaysian local street food available there.

Chua Lam is my favourite chinese food critic around. His travelling knowledge enriches his verdict to foods as well as life. Beautiful ladies are attracted to his style. Other than the TVB working team, 1 phone camera (spot in the photo!) and 1 Panasonic Lumix FZ28 (me!) are shooting them also.

His sense of humor always please his companions. He was explaining how the Xi Dao fish balls are produced…

Alright. He’s gone. Let’s go back to Lot 10 Hutong food court. The idea of Hutong is to group those local KL famous street food stalls or shops together under one roof. Visitors to Malaysia and KL could taste them all at one place! I’m taking you round the place to see what local street foods are on offer here… Firstly, the roast duck rice.

Secondly is Ho Weng Kee pork rib and Char Siew noodles. (Please bear in mind one thing here: Many of the foods here are non-halal)

The most famous Bak Kut Teh (肉骨茶 – herbal pork soup) from Klang, Mao Shan Gao is here also! I tried this on that day and it was fantastic and authentic!

Light chinese snacks and cakes…

This corner featured the local Indian and Malay foods. You could find Roti Canai (Paratha) or rojak (indian salad) over here.

This is something out of KL. Ipoh chicken rice is originally from Ipoh, Perak. Now travellers could try the authentic delicacy here in KL rather than travelling 200KM to Ipoh.

You Tiao stall. Though originally from China, You Tiao or You Char Kway (chinese cruller fried bread stick or chinese donut) is still the Malaysian chinese favourite snack or breakfast. Other than You Tiao, Ma Jiao (马脚), Jia Zong (挟粽)and Jian Dui (煎堆)are also available.

Mr. Siew Bao. The chinese snack shop selling egg tarts, siew bao (烧包), yam cakes, coconut tarts and etc.

Chinese Tea and Dim Sum corner.

Famous charbroiled fried Hokkien noodle from Petaling Street or KL China Town, the black noodle that you can’t miss!

Exceptionally isolated is this counter selling non-Malaysian but German foods!

Mr. Chua Lam only recommends the best food in any town or city. He is recommending Lot 10 hutong in his food critic TV series.
