Happy Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year 2018 to all travelers

Chinese Lunar new Year 2018 and Gong Xi Fa Cai

Happy Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year 2018 to all travelers who are celebrating. Most people are celebrating new year on the first day of every Gregorian calendar year. As for Chinese descendant from all over world, be them American Chinese, Malaysian Chinese or mainland Chinese, we are also celebrating new year on the first day of every lunar calendar year.

Lunar calendar as opposed to Gregorian calendar, has shorter days in a month which symbolizes the moon phases of the month. In contrast, Gregorian calendar follows the rise of sun. So lunar calendar is more accurate to predict when you can catch a full moon in any month.  If you are a Feng Shui or BaZi believers, their code of practice is following lunar calendar, not Gregorian.

For this year, Lunar New Year 2108 falls on 16th of February of Gregorian calendar. Chinese celebrates the new year for as long as 15 days. So do I. Since last Friday, our families and friends gathered together for reunion dinners, teas, or lunches. This is a very good Chinese culture where we foster our relationship between relatives and friends especially between older and younger generations.

After 12AM tonight, we will celebrate the 9th Day of Lunar New Year 2018, or the “Tian Gong Dan” (The Birthday of Heaven God). As usual, we gather for prayers and fire crackers in either temples or our households. Off course, no lunar new year celebration would complete without the abundance of delicious foods! Wishing all of you who are praying Tian Gong (拜天公) tonight, the 9th Day of CNY, Happy Tian Gong Dan!

For avid travelers, this is a great moment for us to share our exciting travel stories of last year and accumulate inspiration for this year travel resolution! Until them, see ya and again HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR! – Travel Feeder
