World Tourism Day 2013 and the importance of water

Today is the UNWTO’s proclaimed World Tourism Day. Each year on 27 September, celebrations are being held around the world with the purpose to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism towards its social, cultural, political and economic value. This year, the official celebration is held in Maldives, the dream travel destination for many travelers.

The theme for this year is “Tourism and Water: Protecting our Common Future”. Being the most important international observance day for tourism, World Tourism Day 2013 is a worldwide platform to underscore tourism´s responsibility and commitment in ensuring a sustainable water future.

As part of the celebrations in the Maldives, a high-level Think Tank on Tourism and Water will bring together public and private sector tourism stakeholders, leading experts on water preservation and media experts to debate key issues encompassing the global water challenge.

As part of the travel industry, Travel Feeder will continue to play the supporting role to encourage people around the world to enrich their lives and foster closer relationship with families and friends with memorable holidays, while putting effort to conserve our water.

Talking about the effort of tourism towards water crisis, the apparent sectors in the front line would be both lodging and F&B establishments, and tourists are always the key persons in conserving our precious water resources. Tourists should make necessary efforts to save water usage while on travels, such as reusing bathrobes and towels, or don’t waste our foods in hotels’ buffet breakfast or dinners.

Other than that, efforts should also be put to keep our rivers, seas and lakes as clean as they should be, in order to preserve our clean water access.

UNWTO invites all to participate and share their events and follow the official World Tourism Day celebrations online: wtd.unwto.org. Think over it and play your part as a responsible travelers. 🙂 – Travel Feeder
