Eat Well in London

Food is such a huge part of traveling. It’s good to know where to get some great food, so as soon as you land, you can fill that belly up with not just something yummy, but something different, new and interesting that you haven’t had before. We gathered here some of the great foods found in London. So grab a good deal on your flights to London with Virgin flight tracker, and make sure to come super hungry.

Comfort food at some of London’s dwindling pie-and-eel shops should be a stop on your culinary adventure in the city. A totally weird combo of things to sell, this old time favorite will have your taste buds dancing. There’s two choices: A pie served with mashed potatoes and parsley sauce on top, or jellied eels. Surprisingly the eel isn’t fishy, and better than it sounds.

Certainly not your healthiest breakfast, the bacon butty is eaten because it’s damn delicious. Period. There’s no worrying about counting calories on this dish. It’s very simple really, just white bread and bacon, but it’s easy on the go and a popular and cheap morning meal amongst the busy London office workers. Pick a sauce to drench your sandwich in, like English mustard or HP sauce and call it a day.

Here we have another sandwich, because who doesn’t love a good sandwich? The Toasted cheese sandwich is another favorite and super easy peasy snack or light meal the people can’t get enough of. Often called a “cheese toastie” it’s simply Montgomery Cheddar, leeks, garlic and onion all smushed together in a delicious freshly baked sourdough bread from a Parisian bakery. Warning: Cheese oozing out everywhere is to be expected.

Neatly sliced open and salted, smoked, then cooked over a grill or perhaps sauteed, is the preparation process for the cured herring, known as Kippers. This was a popular fish to be on the table during a Victorian dinner, it’s still ate today by the masses. Although the flavor is strong and the fish can be a bit oily, pairing it with butter and lemon, and perhaps even a poached egg will be a match made in culinary heaven.
