See the top Spring colours in Amsterdam and Japan

Spring is around the corner. Though an extraordinary cold wind has brought to an unusual low temperature across the North hemisphere and hit most of the European countries as well as South Korea and Japan, we are still looking forward to a beautiful Spring with vibrant colours when plenty of different flowers are starting to bloom. Let’s see 2 of the most spectacular Spring colours scenes in Amsterdam and Japan where I have been to and wish to share them here with my fellow travelers.

1) Tulips in Netherlands

Being the largest tulips garden in the world, Keukenhof Tulips Garden is the must visit destination in Spring. It opens to public for only 2 months in a year during the blooming season of tulips between March to May each year. The garden is located in Lisse, a small town in southwest of Amsterdam and is easily reachable by bus within an hour. Netherlands is one the biggest exporters of tulips in the world and tulips cultivation fields could be seen around Lisse and Keukenhof. By the end of May each year, most tulips in the field will be exported. Normally, travelers will visit the garden on their travel to Amsterdam.

This year, the park will be open to the public from Thursday 21 March to Monday 20 May. The garden that is as large as 60 football fields or 32 hectares in size features hundreds of thousands of tulips with different variants and colours. So many flowers, so many colours and patterns. Walk through the park and discover the special beauty spots, visit the various flower shows and marvel at the sheer beauty of nature or let yourself be surprised by the inspirational gardens.

If you love Spring colours as much as I do, you will love Tulips in Netherland. If you love tulips, you will love Keukenhof Tulips Garden. A day trip to the garden from Amsterdam during this Spring will complete your Europe tour for sure.

2) Cherry Blossom in Japan

Cherry Blossom is the national flower of Japan. Japanese love this flower so much that they can spend a whole day just sitting on grass in the garden picnicking while enjoying the Cherry Blossom scenes. They call it Hanami, I call it splendid! As Cherry Blossom blooms in different time in different cities each year between March and May, and will only last for 2 weeks before it falls and green leaves grows, foreign visitors are luck if they are able to catch full bloom of Cherry Blossom on their limited travel period in Japan.

Fortunately, because of different weather zones across Japan, and Cherry Blossom are found everywhere in any Japanese city, we can follow its blooming trail on our travel. It was how I managed to catch sakura full blossom up North in Hokkaido last year! Although Sakura does not have as many different and vibrant Spring colours as Tulips, but having them hanging all over trees above you is another kind of unforgettable experience!

When I went to Japan last year to catch the Cherry Blossom blooming, the peaks were already over in Tokyo and Kyoto. So we traveled further up to the Northern Island of Hokkaido where the peak was not over yet. We visited Fort Goryokaku (五稜郭) in Hakodate, which is one of the best place to experience the Hanami in Hokkaido, Japan. I took many photos of the beautiful flowers and were being shared on my earlier post: Catching Sakura full bloom at Fort Goryokaku, Hakodate.
