Travel Snapshot – Acquedotto Pisa

Acquedotto, or aqueduct in Italian, is piping supplying fresh water to various parts of a city, for either drinking, irrigation or industrial usage. Acquedotto ducting could be laid on surface or buried underground. If they are laid underground, there are always manholes within certain distance or at the interchange in order for regular maintenance and inspection.

I love taking photographs of these manhole covers. They represent the cities where they belong to, and no where else.

This photo was taken in Pisa (where else could it be?). It is a manhole cover for underground water piping. You can see them everywhere on Pisa’s pedestrian roads. I snapped it while we were walking to Campo dei Miracoli, the Field of Miracle where the famous Leaning Tower is.

Another prominent feature of the manhole cover is the flower symbol at the centre. It’s actually the Coats of Arms of Pisa. This is another reason why I love snapping manhole covers!

Don’t be too excited though. This photo was not snapped with my Nikon D7000. While I’m writing my review on it, this is to show how my old workhorse D60 could do for me… 🙂 – Travel Feeder, the ultimate travel photo blog.
