Travel by photos – Local foods heaven at night market in Phuket

Phuket is truly a gem in the Southern Thailand. Measuring 48 km in length and 21 km in width, it is the largest island and the most popular tourism island in Thailand, receiving more than 2 Million foreign visitors each year. I’ve been there 3 years ago and have visited some of the great tourists spots, which you can read them HERE.

One of the day during our stay in Patong Beach, we hired a taxi van to bring us round the island, including the Phuket town. Before we headed back to our resort in the evening to have same fun along Bangla Street, we dropped by this locally famous night market in Phuket town, which started business from 5:30pm.

Adjacent to it is the day market which features mainly fashion and jewelry stalls.

Because the market is mainly patronized by the locals, stuffs selling in there are unexpectedly cheap! πŸ™‚

Later in the evening, crowds and fantastic food smell started to liven up the night food market. Here are a few photos showing various kinds of street foods and snacks selling in the market. Because they are mainly for the locals, you can hardly find them elsewhere especially those tourist sites and they are truly local foods for local people.

Because they are local food market, most of the wording, signboard and description all in Thai. We could not read them except the price that shown in numbers! πŸ™‚

Local deserts. The local lady tried very hard to understand what we said to her, at least her patience was shown from her smiling face.

There are also food stalls with some seating areas.

We felt grateful to have found this local food market where we could taste many of the local foods at one single place.

We had a wonderful evening in the food market, albeit not all foods are to our liking. The night food market is something similar to our local “Pasar Malam”, the Shilin night market in Taipei, and the Donghuamen night market in Beijing, though in a smaller scale.
