Bucket List Destinations for 2020

Forget New Year’s resolutions; to really kickstart 2020, you’re going to want an impressive bucket list to tick off throughout the year. Expand your horizons and venture into the unknown, exploring unfamiliar countries that are bursting with wonder and knowledge. Live your life with no regrets and make some amazing memories that will last a lifetime, by putting these destinations at the top of your bucket list.

Canada

People like to joke about Canadians being overly friendly and polite, but the truth is, they aren’t too far off. In fact, Canada is widely considered one of the most liveable countries in the world due to its warm locals, safe cities, and stunning natural beauty. If you want to witness some natural wonders, then you need to check out the Rocky Mountains of Alberta and British Columbia, as they are filled with some incredible wildlife, hiking scenes and popular national parks. Watch a gorgeous sunset fall over the Never Summer Mountains, go fishing in Glacier Creek, camp out under the stars or go moose-spotting in the Kawuneeche Valley…the list is endless! Or, if you’re more of a townie, Canada also has some great cosmopolitan cities to explore, the largest being Toronto, a city that celebrates its diversity and is packed with skyscrapers, luxury shopping and a thriving arts scene.

Mexico

If you want to experience a secret island escape from the real world, then Mexico is your safe haven. With glorious sunshine, friendly locals, mouth-watering cuisines and lots of tequila, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a reason not to put Mexico on your list. For one thing, Mexico loves its fiestas, and you can embrace the vibrant celebrations, which include the famous ‘Día de Muertos,’ aka Day of the Dead, the Carnaval in Veracruz & Mazatlán and the Morelia International Film Festival. Or, if you’re looking for some peace and tranquillity on a white-sanded beach paradise, travel to Isla Holbox, considered one of Mexico’s best-kept secrets. There are so many things to do in Isla Holbox from taking boat trips, exploring nearby beaches, swimming with whale sharks, meeting the locals and embracing the awesome nightlife.

South Africa

You shouldn’t visit South Africa just for the safaris – although that is still a very valid reason to go! Unbeknownst to many, South Africa is also renowned for its incredible wines, with many wineries spread out across the country that definitely need to be experienced. There is also a massive variety when it comes to cuisines, which includes the beloved snack biltong, a dried, cured, spiced meat, and the popular street food bunny chow; hollowed-out loaves of bread, stuffed with spicy curry. You can also experience some of the vast history by visiting the museums in Johannesburg and Cape Town, which detail the life of Nelson Mandela.

And, going back to safaris, if you don’t go on one of these, you will be missing out on the remarkable wildlife. One of the best South African safaris is the Kurt Safari tour at Kruger National Park, where you can see hyenas, hippos, lions, elephants, baboons, rhinos and more!

Japan

For travellers seeking unique, once-in-a-lifetime experiences that will stay with them forever, Japan is the go-to destination. Blending beautiful scenery with traditional Japanese architecture, rich culture and modern technology that puts Western countries to shame, Japan is truly full of many wonders. You can witness the gorgeous cherry blossom trees (sakura) in peak season, feed the ‘holy’ white-tailed deer at the Todaiji temple and feel the buzz of city life in Tokyo. And if you’re a fan of Japanese filmmakers, then no Japan holiday would be complete without a tour of the Studio Ghibli museum, the studio responsible for some of the country’s best-loved animated films, including Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle and My Neighbour Totoro.Travel Feeder
