From Deadly Clashes To State Of Emergency – Is Thailand Still Safe To Travel?

Thai Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej declared a state of emergency in Bangkok earlier Today, giving the army control of public order after a man died in overnight clashes between pro- and anti-government protesters. For the past week, Anti-government protesters from the so-called People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) has been storming Samak’s Government House complex, forcing Samak to resign as Prime Minister. Few airports including Phuket and Hattyai have been forced to haul their daily operation and hundreds of travelers have stucked in the airport.

Further to the political crisis that is still unrest, Asian nations have immediately urged their citizens not to travel to Thailand during this period, including Singapore, Australia and Taiwan. Thailand is a hugely popular tourist destination for visitors from Asia and further abroad. It draws millions of travelers to the nation each year. However, is it still safe to travel to Thailand?

What we have been emphasising in our previous posts that one of the top 5 factors to consider when choosing our travel destination is SAFETY of the place. Safety for this instance is the security of travelers in that country. We definitely will not hope to see protestors all over the streets or witness any deadly clashes at all. Off course, safety issues are more than that. Security of travelers in terms of probabilities of being robbed or cheated are among our top factors to consider our next travel destination especially for self travellers.

Used to be the paradise for travelers, we hope Thailand’s political crisis could be resolved in a pieceful manner without sacrificing much on its tourism industry and most importantly, on any human lives. – Travel Feeder.
