The Emerging Travel Photographers’ Destination of Jordan

I was still a student when I first saw the movie Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade and was totally amazed by the magnificent scenes of the movie backdrops. I actually thought who was the art director behind that created such magnificent rock carved architectures in the mountain and did not realize it is actually exist in Petra, Jordan. It is simply marvelous and indeed had been named as the New Seven Wonders of the World!

Jordan is a country with distinctive characteristics. While it is an Islamic nation in west Asia, bordering Saudi Arab, Iraq, Syria and Israel and other Islam countries as its neighbors, Jordan’s landmarks, culture and architecture have had deep influenced by Roman and Christianity. The Petra is an example of great architecture leftover by the Roman civilization in BC. Located in Wadi Musa, south of Jordan, Petra is a complete city carved in a mountain with huge and colourful pink coloured rocks. In 1985, it was inscribed as one of the UNESCO World Heritage site.

Besides Petra, there are many other travel sites where Roman architectures that could still be seen, such as Jerash with colonnaded streets, Corinthian arches, outdoor Roman Theaters and the Oval Plaza, and Umm Qais, a town located on the site of the ruined Hellenistic–Roman city of Gadara. Going for Jordan holidays would not be complete without visiting these travel attractions. As what I can see, these are precious ancient scenes for travel photographers! 🙂

There are much more activities to participate in Jordan. Outdoor activists can join one of the many Adventure tours available to do rock climbing and hiking in the unique environs of Wadi Rum, camel trekking in the southern desert and diving and snorkelling off the coast between Aqaba and the Saudi border. After a whole day out under the hot sun, a soak in a thermal hot water spring or a Turkish bath is another ‘must try’ in Jordan.

The best time to visit Jordan is in Spring or Autumn, when you can enjoy great sunlight and breezing weather as the perfect weather for taking beautiful travel photos easily. While Winter is freezing cold in most parts of the country, Summer would be the other way round, which is hot. For the best weather throughout the year, the Red Sea area and Aqaba would be the best travel destination in that case. Other Jordan’s travel destinations that worth visiting include cities of Amman, the King Hussein Bridge, Umm Qais, Jerash, Petra and Hammamat Ma’in. Each one of them has its own distinctive attractions with countless photography opportunities everywhere.

The Middle East’s bad reputation might have kept many avid travelers away from Jordan, but others would see it as the emerging travel  photographers’ destination in Western Asia. In fact, Jordan is a peaceful country to visit with a surprisingly low crime rate comparatively. So travel photographers should go off the photographers beaten tracks and come to capture the unfamiliar scenes of the beautiful Jordan.  :) – Travel Feeder, your ultimate photo travel blog
