Top things travel bloggers should do to become popular

I was spending my afternoon with my favorite brewed coffee at the outdoor sitting of Starbucks. Supposed to write an article for my sponsor, I thought of something else and changed the post title to what you are seeing here: “Top things travel bloggers should do to become popular”.

I’ve been blogging travel since 2008, publishing more than 790 posts in 4 years. While receiving increasingly good responses from travelers around the world with views on many of my travel stories from tens to thousands each day, Google Page Rank of my travel blogs has maintained its ranking of PR3 eventhough Google tightened its Page Rank guidelines a while ago.

If you check back the Google guidelines on Page Rank, it tells you the following practices should be carried out consistently in order to improve your blog’s PR :-

  1. Choose unique topics to write blog posts and articles about;
  2. Publish valuable guest blog posts on relevant, authority websites;
  3. Use a variety of anchor text in your backlinks. You can even use the name of your business/website. The best anchor text is real, natural, and genuine;
  4. Research the Page Rank and authority of another website before pitching a guest post. The more authority links you have, the better your own Page Rank, and
  5. Only post your link in forums, social bookmarking/networking sites or blog comments where you are active and keep the ratio of your promotional posts low to avoid being spammy.

Out of these practices, I can safely say that I’ve done most of them regularly, except publishing guest posts on other authority websites regularly. I did contribute some guest posting on other travel blogs but not regularly. I’m too busy to write for others. Perhaps this is the reason why I couldn’t get more backlinks from others. But then again, how many of us have that leisure to guest post and update our own travel blogs at the same time?

things travel bloggers should do

From my past experience, I did realise one most important factor to get our travel blog on top of Google search: To blog something many many people are interested in, either for a short time such as news or promotion, or something which are popular over a long period of time. For example, my popular story on the Top 10 places to visit in Malaysia. It is an useful and brief introduction on the 10 most popular places to visit while in Malaysia. I’ve done similar posts on other destinations such as Rome, Italy, Beijing and Europe but this one is getting the most views simply because it is a popular topic among travelers for the past few years.

So what should travel bloggers do to get their blogs popular?

Other than the Top 5 characteristics of a popular travel blog which I shared earlier, I’ve listed down here the top 5 things to do for those travel bloggers out there to consider:

  1. Write some unique stories for ever green and popular topics;
  2. Write insight stories on latest and headlined travel news;
  3. Travel more in order to gain various experiences to be able to share with your readers;
  4. Always stay in front. Read more travel books and gather more latest information on travel gadgets, tips and guides, so to improve your writing skills, and
  5. Lastly, promote your travel blog. What’s the use of having great travel stories without people knowing it and read it? Share it with your friends in Facebook or Twitter is the first but not last thing to do whenever you have updated your blog

By doing these regularly, sooner or later your travel blog will getting more and more audience. If your stories are unique, interesting and are those among the popular topics in travel, your travel blog will naturally become a popular travel portal to those travel addicts or even newcomers! If you intend to earn some cash for your next travel, a popular blog with healthy amounf of readers can make money by blogging easily by following some of my making money guides which I shared earlier. 🙂 – Travel Feeder
